Softball – The Greene County softball team kicked off their season last week, facing PCM and South Hamilton, going 1-1 ahead of the end of the week games.
On May 24, the team traveled to Roland-Story High School and on Saturday the Rams traveled to Ogden for the Bob Morgan Softball Classic. This week, the team will host Grand View Christian on Tuesday and Nevada on Wednesday with a Thursday game at Glidden-Ralston and a Friday game back at home against West Marshall.
The season opener May 20 was a 10-0 Greene County loss on the PCM softball field. The Mustangs saw four runs in the first inning, holding the Rams scoreless throughout the night. One PCM run was scored in the fourth, three in the fifth and the final two in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Rams saw 21 at bats with three hits, one each from Kaycee Pittman, Sara Morlan and Bellah Johnson, all singles. There were eight Ram strikeouts in the game.
On the field, the Rams had 16 putouts on 21 total chances. Alaina Heard and Bellah Johnson, both freshman, split time on the mound with 113 pitches between the two, Heard being pinned with the loss after seeing 19 opponents. Between the pitchers, five hits were allowed with eight walks, three hit batters and two strikeouts.
The Rams visited South Hamilton on Wednesday, picking up a 9-5 win over the Hawks by taking an early lead. Greene County put five runners across home plate in the second inning to get on the board. South Hamilton answered with one of their own, and the game remained 5-1 until the fifth inning with Rams putting two on the board, PCM adding three. Greene County scored two in the sixth, with the Mustangs scoring one run.
The Rams had 12 hits from 35 at bats, with 11 singles and a double from Heard. Four runners reached on error, with just three Rams strikeouts. Payton Kokenge and Addison Gannon had two stolen bases each, making it home both times.
Heard took the mound, throwing 117 pitches, allowing five hits with three walks and one hit batter, striking out 10. There was one fielding error by the Rams, with 19 putouts on 27 total chances. Greene County allowed just one stolen base.
Ram baseball – The Greene County Rams opened the season on Monday, May 13, with a 4-0 fall to Denison-Schleswig, then faced South Hamilton on May 22 and PCM the following day, still on the quest for their first win of the season.
On Friday, May 24, the Rams were scheduled to play Roland-Story on the Norsemen’s home field. This week, the Rams are set to host Van Meter on Tuesday, May 28, and Nevada the following day, with another home game on Friday, against West Marshall.
On Monday, May 13, the team traveled to face Denison-Schleswig, falling 4-0 after the Monarchs scored one run in the first and three in the second. The Rams saw no hits in the game, but two batters were walked with one reaching on error. Fourteen Rams struck out against the Monarchs.
The Rams saw three errors on the field, with 18 putouts on 24 total chances, allowing three stolen bases. Noah Hinote was on the mound, facing 24 batters and allowing four hits with four runs, two being earned. Hinote saw four walked batters and two hit by pitches with eight strikeouts.
The Rams traveled to South Hamilton High School on Wednesday, falling 7-1. The sole Ram run was put across the plate in the third inning, with the seven from the Hawks scored across innings two, three and four.
Six singles were smacked by the Rams, with Lane Fields responsible for three of them. Gavyn Winters, Camden Jacobs and Jaron Jacobs hit one each. Nine Rams struck out, with one walk and one hit by a pitch.
On the field, Greene County saw 18 putouts on 23 total chances with 10 putouts from J. Jacobs and five from Conner. There was one error and five stolen bases allowed by the Rams. C. Jacobs and Teagan Chisholm were on the mound, allowing nine hits with two earned runs, five walks and nine strikeouts.
Thursday’s trip to PCM High School resulted in a 7-2 loss for Greene County. PCM scored three runs in the first and two in the fourth. They scored once in the fifth before the Rams battled in the top of the sixth to put two runners across home plate. The Mustangs scored once in the sixth to end the game.
Fields led in hits once again, smacking two singles. Adam Bills, Jacobs and Degan Miller were each credited with a single as well. J. Jacobs was on base after being hit by a pitch, making it home, with Miller finding home plate as well. Three Rams were walked with three hit by pitches and six strikeouts.
Hinote threw 111 pitches to 32 batters, allowing six hits with six earned runs, three walks and two hit batters, striking out four. There were 20 putouts on 30 total chances from the Rams, with one error and three stolen bases allowed.
